The first media effect debate I will define and explain is the Hypodermic Syringe Model. This refers to a metaphorical injection of a text that stimulates a response from the audience. An example of this would be the fact the majority of the School Shootings in America, looking for something or someone to blame, newspapers pointed the finger at Video Games. Accusing Video games made the murderer violent and claiming that Video Games were played before these tragic events.

The next effect debate I will define and explain is the Inoculation Model. This theory suggests that a long exposure to a repeated messages from the media makes that 'immune' to them, repetition of a specific ideology makes them less shocking to an audience. An example of this is during the Korean War, several prisoners of war wanted to remain with there captors, many believed these where brainwashed for years.

The 'Passive' audience theory suggests people in the category are weak-willed and controlled by media texts. These people have no opinions and accept the media without questioning it. These are Followers.

The 'Active' audience theory suggests people in this category are free-willed and in control of the media they consume, questioning it when necessary. These people form there own opinion about media texts are there opinions aren't as easily effected by media texts. These are Involved and can make there own opinions.

Violence on Television doesn't have a major act upon violent behavior in my opinion. When watching TV violence, you are not actually experiencing whats going on, you're just watching pixels. I believe that being involved in a violent act has a much stronger role to play in the violence of a human. If violence was directly associated with TV violence, everybody watching anything violent like Breaking Bad doesn't simply go out and be violent themselves, this is an example of the Hypodermic Syringe model though.

The most acceptable audience type is the Passive audience. These are weak willed individuals which do not form there own opinions nor do they question types of media text around them, instead they accept ideas from the media. Active audience members would instead question the media texts and form their own opinion. Active audience members are associated with being strong minded and having control over their minds.

BREAKING BAD

My overall enjoyment for Breaking Bad applies a lot of Uses and Gratifications. The main reason I watch Breaking Bad is for Entertainment, I find the show highly entertaining while maintaining a level of seriousness which is what makes the show appealing to me. The humor used the the series is quite grim, some jokes but the main source of humor is through one of the main characters 'Saul', a cynical and straight-forward lawyer helping a duo of meth makers with their business. The drama in the series is what makes it addictive, it is a drama series so this is expected, but the show mostly ends on cliff hangers, making the audience tune in next week.

This also ties in with the Social Interaction that partners with the show. This show is among the top 3 watched drama series of all time, it is rare to find a person who hasn't watched it. This is also a popular topic in conversations among many, meaning most discussions will have a hint of Breaking Bad involved. As we use this media, it allows us to communicate about our consumption with friends, relatives or strangers which share a common interest.

This show is totally un-predictable and about as realistic and gritty as a show gets. As its realistic, many of use can relate to some of the actions the characters do and the audience develop alongside the main character as he progresses through the random hurdles he is faced with.

People who take a preferred reading to this advertisement, understand what this shocking image is trying to portray. They understand that un-moral actions like seal clubbing must stop and they agree with the slogan, that one should treat others as they would like to be treated, this includes animals and humans alike.

People who take an oppositional reading to this image oppose that animals should be treated like humans. They may also disagree with the image used, may even take offense to it. These people are most likely people who take part in such un-moral activities like seal clubbing.
