Media Diary week 3
A media text which I have consumed this week is 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians.' This is a reality TV show about a well known family in the spotlight known as the Kardashians. From the income and status model my opinion would be that the audience it is most likely aimed for is group E and or group D. The reason for this is that the show is about their lives and I think people who are in the upper class would not want to sit there watching how good some peoples lives are when they have a similar lifestyle even if they are not famous. Another reason for this is what time they show the programme at, usually the programme is aired at 10 o'clock till 11, this is probably the time that an unemployed person would stay up till or a student because it is quite late.
This is probably the kind of programme a mainstreamer would consume, their main need is security. This show is all about family and security in a family, so this would apply to the mainstreamer. Also it is a quite common show watched by many people, usually teenagers, who also would need security at this stage in their lives. However some people may argue with this and say that Keeping Up With The Kardashians would apply to the aspirer because they seek for status in their life. Watching this programme about other people who take care in their appearance and also status would be what the aspirer is looking for and what the aspirer would aspire to be like.
Finally the lifestyle category that this fits into would be Egoists because these are the people who want to get the most out of life for themselves and this show is about famous people who basically have everything they want. This is what the Egoist wants out of their lives and will do anything to get the most out of life but only thinking about themselves, which some people would say this is what the Kardashians are like.
