Sleepy Hollow
Sleepy Hollow fulfills the need of Entertainment/ Escapism as the fantastical, macabre elements allows me to forget reality and imagine a world in which these strange occurrences occur. After a stressful day I relaxed and wound down by watching Sleepy Hollow and temporarily forgot about my anxiety for college, homework and family life. Sleepy Hollow also fulfills the Personal Identity element of the Uses and Gratification model. I found the program entertaining as I enjoy programs of this fantasy drama such as Grimm, so I personally connected with Sleepy Hollow as it was very similar to the previously mentioned program. The program also for me fitted into the Social Interaction branch as I watched it with my dad and we talked about our shared experience of watching it together. Sleepy Hollow also fitted into the Social Interaction as I went in the next day of college and among my friends we talked about how much we enjoyed the program, allowing me to gain the insight of others thus gaining social-empathy.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
For me, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, fulfilled my Entertainment/ Escapism needs hugely as I'm a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D being an offshoot of the blockbuster movies, I was hooked from the start. I thoroughly enjoy the program and I look forward to Friday evenings when it plays as since it starting it has become a ritual to watch. I escape through Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as I am engrossed with the story lines, amazing action and CGI scenes and the subtle nods to the feature films and wider MCU. However in a more far-fetched way of escaping, I sometimes imagine what a world might be like if it was inhabited with superheroes and villains and how different my life would be in that world. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D also hits the Social Interaction of the Uses and Gratification model as I've conversed with people on Twitter about my opinions on the program, which had allowed me to identify with others and find a sense of belonging. In a small way Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has tackled the Information module of the Uses and Gratification model as it has allowed me to keep up to date with the fictional Marvel Cinematic Universe and the events taking place in it.
