Media Diary - Week 5

The Amazing Spider-Man

This film fulfilled a few different gratifications for me. The first one being personal identity. I have always enjoyed Marvel films, particularly the previous Spider-Man films featuring Tobey Maguire. They have also been some of my favourite films, so I sort of have an attachment to Spider-Man films. I also have liked both Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in other films I have seen them in, both becoming some of my favourite actors. The films also provided me with entertainment. I enjoyed the storylines, like how Peter Parker gained his powers, how he becomes Spider-Man and then how his relationships with Gwen and Dr Curt Connors develop throughout the film. I then found it interesting how Gwen's dad, head of the police department, was trying to capture Spider-Man, whilst Curt Connors became a giant lizard, becoming Spider-Mans enemy. Finally, I used the film to fulfil the need of social interaction. It allowed me to discuss the film with my friends, but also compare it to the previous Spider-Man films, debating which ones were the better films.

Match of the Day

Match of the Day fulfilled all gratifications for me. It fulfilled my need for personal identity because I am a fan of football and it allowed me to watch highlights of every Premier League game that was played on Saturday. It also allowed me to watch the team I personally support Everton. It also fulfilled the need of Entertainment. I have grew up watching and playing football, so I do enjoy watching it, especially when the Premier League can show off some of the biggest and best names in world football. The programme does also provide us with information, as it tells us the results of the days matches and shows us how the Premier League table is currently standing at the end of the show. Finally, it does also fulfil the need for social interaction. The audience can talk to friends and family about certain games and goals. Also, if a controversial situation has occurred in match, the audience are asked to tweet their opinion, and then the show will reveal a poll later on, revealing what the majority of other people thought.
