Media Diary - Week 6

My guilty pleasure is most probably that I willingly watch Keeping up with the Kardashians and all of its spin off shows. They are reality shows that follow the daily lives of the Kardashian family, mainly the three older sisters, Kourtney, Kim and Khloe. I believe the shows target audience are young females, probably aged between the ages sixteen and thirty. I also believe the shows would appeal to the aspirer and the mainstreamer. The aspirer would want to be like or look like the Kardashian sisters, as they are also known for being extremely attractive. The Kardashians are also hugely popular across the globe, so the mainstreamer would likely be draw to them due to their popularity.

I believe this is not usually a text I would usually consume, mainly because of the type or person I am and because of the other types of media I consume. I tend to only care for sport, whether that be football, basketball or American football. I spend a lot of time watching sport, reading articles or researching the sport so I can further my knowledge in a particular field. When not watching or looking into sport, I tend to watch comedies like The Big Bang Theory or The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. So for me to then go and watch a reality show, which focuses on three women in their early thirties, I myself do find strange.

I do take a preferred reading of the text and it fulfils my needs for entertainment and even social interaction. I do enjoy watching it and I do find some aspects of the show interesting. I find it interesting how people of their status live and how they go about their everyday life. Its good to sometimes see the glamorous lifestyle that they have, but then I think its good to see they are not exempt from the problems everyday people have also. The show I find also brings humour. Some of the family arguments they have, or even the things certain family members do or say, you cant help but laugh. All these things that bring me entertainment, I can then go on and discuss with my friends who also watch it, fulfilling my need for social interaction.
