Media Studies: Media Diary week 3
income and status model:
I believe that the demographic for 'Charmed' would be from B to E. This is because the program centers around the lives of 4 sisters who are of different ages and intellect. They also have different jobs which means that people from across the income and status model will be able to connect with at least one of the main characters.
Y&R's 4C's Model:
I believe that 'Charmed' would appeal to the Explorer. This is because of the fact that 'charmed' takes the watcher into a new world of magic, witches and demons. therefore the explorer would be attracted to this show as it gives them a whole new world to discover and wrap their mind around.
Lifestyle Categories:
'Charmed' appeals to the Groupies in the Lifestyle categories. The Groupies will connect with the characters on the show as they are witches hoping that the world will simply accept them and hoping that at some time in the future they will not have to be guarded about their magic and exposing it.
Uses and Gratifications:
'Charmed' fits into some of the Uses and Gratification models. It fits into the Entertainment and Escapism element as the fantasy world of magic works at drawing in the audience and helping them to forget about the troubles of life. It helps to serve as a distraction from life. It also fits into the personal identification category because even with the magic and the fictional plot lines there are still parts which a person can connect with e.g. the death of Prue Halliwell (above) can cause a person to connect with her surviving sister Piper Halliwell (above right) if they have lost a relative close to them.
