How Slumdog Millionaire targets different audiences

There are many different theory's in which can prove which audiences are affected by this film, these are such things as, uses and gratifications, themes, the 4C's model and several more. When looking at the 4C's model, certain aspects of the film will help describe how they can be described to target different audiences, for Slumdog millionaire, I would say that this would apply to the mainstreamer, as these are attracted to every day themes such as romance and health. However we could also say that the model which defines the explorer can also be applied to connote the aspect of life such as though obstacles our characters have to deal with, all of which the audience type enjoys. However the narrative style of the film is aimed to appeal beyond the mainstream theory, as it is more about challenging the audience and engaging them to make them think deeply.
The uses and gratifications model can also be used in a form of targeting a different audience, the main one of which applies to how the audience can connect to the film is personal identity, it gives the audience a chance to connect with the characters, this is through such things as action and enigma codes, the characters having a background allows the audience to get to know the individually. The issues dealt with throughout the film also gives and aspect into personal identity, the issue of poverty being a main one as it interests people to see the occurrences from other countries.
Themes reoccur throughout the film, allowing the audience to identity with these more, the main themes being, romance, destiny, crime, luck, obstacles, violence and inequality. Having such a wide range of themes could be difficult in a film as the audience may find it difficult to connect to them, and they may not be able to keep up with the narrative, but in Danny Boyle's case, using this variety has only done benefits as it appeals to a wider range of audience. The use of different characters dealing with these themes, makes the audience make choices to who are there favorite characters are, which allows more connection to each individual character.
