There are a number of themes
in my music video, for example the theme of being chased or followed. The
inspiration for this theme was found in Bring Me The Horizons video for
‘Sleepwalking’. Every shot from my storyboards of one scene from the video
features the current protagonist (or one of the few main characters) being
chased by an unknown danger, this aspect was a mix of two videos I researched
being Sleepwalking and Queens Of The Stone Age’s ‘Go With The Flow’ video. The
point of view shots I used were inspired by Sleepwalking while Go With The flow
features a group of enemies or ‘bad guys’ who are silhouetted out of the
spectators vision, this shows another theme of having (unknown) enemies.
Sleepwalking also inspired other smaller aspects of my video such as the
campfire in shot 5 of my storyboards and it also inspired the locations I chose
such as the forest location in my storyboards.
Another video that had a
great influence on my music video was Cage The Elephants ‘Shake Me Down’. This
video has a particular theme of being alone, the main character for the
majority of the video is alone running through a park. He is isolated and seems
to be away from civilization, so I made sure in my storyboards that the trees
in the background where shown to surround the character as he runs and in shot
number one we can see the dark sky and all the stars and moon which shows the
character is far away from civilisation.
The band shots of my storyboards where inspired by quite a few of my researched videos, Heart shaped box, here comes your man, go with the flow, sleepwalking and a few others all have band shots in them, with mine i took influences from most of them, for example the sleepwalking video shows the band playing in an old run down pub, so for my video the band are playing in a run down, dark room. The way the singer mimes in the here comes your man video is something i also wanted to include in my own video, he doesn't move his mouth he just opens it and looks at the camera with weird expressions, so in my storyboards whenever the singer s in shot his mouth is wide open. The heart shaped box video has extremely long shots of the whole band playing which i liked so i also included some similar extreme long shots in my storyboards.
The four closeup shots of the enemies in my video where inspired by the 'No Surprises' video by Radiohead, this video to me just proved the power of a close up as the entire video is one close up shot of the singer miming. My close ups are no where near as long at the one in No Surprises however i still feel that they would still connote an emotional response of fear onto the viewer, this would reinforce how the character being chased is feeling onto the viewer. I also studied two Red Hot Chili Peppers videos, 'Cant Stop' and 'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie', these videos mainly inspired the actions of the band in both the last band shots and the other shots with the band in the background, they do asort of weird dance and RHCP are famous for their outgoing stage moves.
