Media Diary Week 2: Bad Education.

The trailer for Series 3 of Bad Education.

The media text I have decided to talk about in my media diary for this week is Bad Education, which is a sitcom on BBC Three. It stars Jack Whitehall as young teacher Alfie Wickers – "the worst teacher ever to grace the British education system" – at the fictional Abbey Grove School, in Watford, Hertfordshire. The Season 3 of Bad Education began on the 16th of September 2014 (however I was quite late to watch it and only discover that season 3 had begun this monday...).
I found out that Season 3 of this series had began through social networks like; twitter and tumblr.
The purpose of the show is to look at the reality of school and students as well as to parody the whole concept of school based TV, and obviously for entertainment purposes.
This show is being produced by Tiger Aspect Productions who also produced The Vicar of Dibley and Mr. Bean.
The target audience for this show is young adults mostly as it makes a lot of references to mainstream events and media as well as the class of humor which is quite mature.
I am going to be honest and say that I adore Bad Education. The student characters are not 2D like most TV shows that are set in schools, they are fleshed out greatly with different and individual personalities as well as the teacher characters. The different scenarios, some being realistic and some being completely out there, are greatly handled and light-hearted moments are spread through out. A great example would be the Christmas episode when the bully character (Frank) discovers he is homosexual. The matter is not blown out of proportion at all, It's simply shown with the lesson of being okay with yourself with the obvious comedy around it as it is a sitcom. The show teaches life lessons greatly (when it has those types of moments) and has some funny comedy. Season 3 only has 2 episode as of the time I'm typing this so a lot could change within the series itself.
People would consume the text to be entertained as well as to gain advice from the life lesson episodes that I mentioned. People may also consume it because of Jack Whitehall's reputation or because of Tiger Aspect Productions reputation.
Some people could be offended by the rude humor of the show as it is quite mature, some could also support and take on the lessons show in some of the episodes and then there could be a few non-mainstreamers who are confused by the constant references that link to mainstream media/events or past seasons of the show.
