Defining/ Classifying
Audiences
1.
The Main Stream
I believe soaps such as Emmerdale,
Eastenders, Hollyoaks etc. are the most appealing to the ‘Mainstream’ group.
This is because the majority of Brits watch these soaps for instance and a characteristic
of a member of the Mainstream is that they live life as we rather than me and
such they will do what others do and watch what others watch, usually described
as a sheep. The stereotype of people who watch these sorts of programs is very
negative, it suggests they live a very boring life and only fulfill there
simple needs and live the same structure as other mainstreamers.
The Aspirer
I believe Vogue/GQ magazine will appeal to
the aspirers mainly, because It can show you what a lot of people are wearing
and what are the hot topics that you must know. These things appeal to an
Aspirer because they want to look there best for other people and dress the ways
they believe people will want them to dress because they believe this
superficial look is what will attract attention. There looks are more important
than who they really are inside and so Vogue/GQ can help them keep it that way.
The Succeeder
I believe the Telegraph newspaper will
appeal to certain members of the ‘Succeeder’ group. This is because the
Telegraph speaks to the higher members of Society rather than focusing on the
lower class of Britain. As well as gain intelligence and information from this
newspaper the relaxation side of the succeeder is also seen to from there
general topics as well as the more specialized areas. This Newspaper can appeal
to the Succeeder because it targets the upper class for their intelligence and
brand support.
The Explorer
I believe Vice News would appeal to the
explorer more than other media texts because, Vice delivers edgy unseen news
and topics to the UK that people have never really discovered or engaged with
and so I believe the Explorer will target these lesser known ‘Hipster’ if you
will texts. A Positive from this news website and others like it is it brings
to light new brands that say the bigger news companys/ websites have not
discovered or advertised themselves and so it gives The Explorer a chance to
discover the smaller brands. Vice is for people with very different tastes to
modern society and so the Explorer would soak this Text up instantly.
2.
I believe these categories are
good for sorting the vast majority of people into groups however there can be
small numbers of people who are between a number of these groups for instance I
see my self as The Explorer mostly however I like to think that I slip into The
Succeeder group from time to time which suggests that this method can not
categorize everybody as there will always be people between tiers.

4.
I believe Soaps such as
Emmerdale, Eastenders and Hollyoaks etc. would gather the Cynics audience, this
is because the general population complain and moan about soaps in many ways
and so the Cynics will fit in.
I believe fashion/lifestyle magazines such as Vogue/GQ
would fit with the Groupies category. This is because Groupies want to fit in
to Society and relate to other people and so these types of Magazines do just
that. I believe the Telegraph newspaper would fit with the Rebels group, this
is because in order to find out if your views match those of other people you
must see what other peoples views are and this also is a way of contacting the
writers as it is an open newspaper.
I believe Vice News targets the Innovators because it
gives new ideas to people and brings up topics that have never been explored
and so leaves room for you to expand on others’ opinions and give your
response. This appeals to the innovators because they want there opinions heard
and to leave a positive mark on the world, possible through writing.
