Media Diary; Week Six

Rihanna Talk That Talk

Talk That Talk is the sixth studio album by Barbadian recording artist Rihanna, released November 18th in 2011. Rihanna decided to re-release her previous album Loud in 2010, however revealed that the idea had been scrapped and instead she would release her sixth album. The album was recorded during Rihanna's Loud Tour, between February and November. Musically speaking, Talk That Talk follows in the same vein as Loud, as it is also a dance-oriented pop crossover album.

Upon its release the album received generally positive reviews from music critics. Debuting at number three on the U.S. BillBoard 200, the album has sold 1.12million copies in the United States. With its first week of sales of 198,000 copies, the album peaked at number on in Austria, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Six official singles were released from the album, 'We Found Love', 'You Da One', 'Talk That Talk', 'Birthday Cake', 'Where Have You Been' and 'Cockiness.' As of April 2012, the album has been certified three-times platinum by the British Phonographic Industry, for shipments of 900,000 copies.

I personally enjoy listening to the album from time to time. The album provides so many catchy & memorable singles, which I love. Despite being a long time fan of Rihanna, her work has definitely paid off. The album was what I expected it to be like, and also what I expected from Rihanna herself. It definitely brought me to listen to her music so much more than I originally use to. In saying this, I believe that the main targeted audience would in fact be young teenagers, like myself. The album has definitely lived up to the expectations of Rihanna's fans & admirers. I feel as though, people may purchase this album because they like her as an artist, or they can relate to her and her music to a certain extent. Others may buy it because of Rihanna's popularity or because of her previous album, in which they would contrast it to. Overall I would recommend this album to anyone who is interested/enjoys pop music, and would give the album a star rating of 5/5.
