4. Linkin Park - What I've Done

Visual Style/Mise-en-scene.
The video begins with a close up of grass on a low angle, and then also a scorpion. After this, we're shown what looks like the camera in the point of view of a scorpion. Still at a low level, the camera moves closer to the band, which are placed in the distance. It starts out unfocused, however regains it's focus as we get closer. This could symbolise a hallucination in the dessert, reflecting it's surroundings. There are a variety of quick shots in the video, of different world casualties and moments in history. The use of quick shots could express that the band have a lot to say about what is being seen in the video. I think one of the more interesting shots, is when we're placed at a low angle, a lost beneath one of the guitarists. I interpret this, as the band having power over the audience. We're forced to be placed in a position where we're vulnerable, and powerless, encouraging us to take on board what is being said.

Narrative including techniques used.
I think one of the main running themes through this video, is that it's easy to start over. In my interpretations, i think it's expressing that it's easy to start over and forget mistakes. The story is told by having images which link to the lyrics, such as  baby being shown when the music states being "reborn". We can't physically be reborn, but the idea of having a baby exaggerates that it's possible to start over.

Conventional/Unconventional.
Unlike some typical videos, this music video doesn't have two different scenes. For example, instead of having one scene of the musicians, and another of a story being told, there are multiple videos which flash between the shots of the band performing. Conventionally, it shows two different scenarios, however if it's broken down even more, the second scenario of the videos includes multiple different shots, which although they might not have a relation to one another, it makes sense to the audience due to the meaning behind the song.

What works/What doesn't.
One of the most interesting things about this video, would be the use of rewind, and fast forward. The applied video at the end of the grass growing, is also shown in rewind at the start. This could be a motif to the theme that things can be undone and restarted, or people can take back what they're 'produced' and start over.
