Kendrick Lamar - A.D.H.D

Camera/Editing

A lot of close ups are used in the track however Kendrick only looks directly at the camera a few times, The editing is crisp and smooth with a slow pace to reflect the actual song and also to go inline with the song. In comparison to other music videos not a lot of shots are used. The camera itself is very rarely still while filming and usually moving around. One of the few times it is still is when Kendrick is alone of the floor , this is the show that he is so alone not even the cameras are there with him.

Narrative

Kendrick feels like he and his crew are alone in the world and thus turn to weed to make themselves feel better, "You are, You are, a loner, a loner, marijuana endorphins make you stronger stronger". Kendrick believes that A.D.H.D is used as an excuse for some people to behave how they want, A.D.H.D for some people who have it is blamed for every mistake they make and Kendrick suggests that because of this some have used this to their advantage so they can behave how they want and still have an excuse.

Conventional/Unconventional

The video could be considered conventional in a few ways such as with the lip syncing of lyrics however even this convention is challenged as the song is performed not in a studio but in the same location as the rest of the video. The video as a whole doesn't really match the lyrics deeper meaning however the video does help paint a picture of just the lyrics solely how they are said but nothing more than that.

What Works?

Directed by Vashtie the video itself could be considered somewhat stereotypical of a normal rap video on the surface, if you were to watch without listening to the video you would see a rapper with his friends go after some girls which is somewhat stereotypical rap. This video however works because there is a deeper meaning to the lyrics that would might only spot if you analysed the video further. The actual video is fairly simple as they start out on the street untill some more people hook up with them.
