Mental Health Awareness

Ideology

The Mental Health Awareness advert is trying to help people who stress and need to talk to someone feel confident to open themselves up rather than keep everything in. If you don't talk to people about your problems then they will overtake your life and you wont be able to handle any upcoming hurdles that will come your way because you are not mentally stable to be able to handle them.

Character/Visual style

The adverts setting is on a main road at a bus stop where a young girl is impatiently waiting for her bus. The visual style is effective because almost everyone has had the same issue that this young teen is having - being stuck in a bus stop waiting for a bus late at night. The VO is worrying and scared, this emphasises the fact that she is alone and vulnerable making the audience sympathise for her. the constant echoing of her own voice is confusing not only for the girl but for the audience, she has so many thoughts in her head and the audience experiences this with her. At the end of the advert there is text written on who you should turn to if you are experiencing bad thoughts from mental health issues.

Lines of Appeal

There are no real shock tactics here - however Safety needs and Love and Belonging needs are clearly visible in this advert as the young girl is vulnerable and needs to feel safe inside with her family. There are also basic appeals such as need to feel safe so she is free from threats in her every day life and so that she feels safe. Persuasive ideologies such as the Needs, Fears and aspirations is used here to explore the teenages different problems starting from family problems, school problems, relationship problems etc.
