Twin Atlantic - Hold On

Camera & editing – The music video uses slow paced editing to not confuse the viewer. It is used so that the actual music video is easier for them to understand. The video also uses close ups of the female protagonists face. This is done so that the audience can see how she is feeling by emphasising the emotion shown in her face.  POV shots (point of view) this is used to allow the audience to see things from her perspective. This helps give them an understanding of her current situation; in this case the bus; it shows how far away it is and that its moving; making it unlikely for her to achieve her goal.

Narrative - The music videos narrative is quite simple. It shows two stories; one a girl looking to redeem herself with the boy she loves, whilst overcoming numerous obstacles. The other being the simplicity of a band playing in a domestic household; these two stories are entwined when one of the band members is seen looking outside the window into the street. The girl is seen running across our screens; I feel this is used to help the viewer visualise this could actually happen to them/a friend. The simplicity of looking out your window helps build this feeling as it is a common everyday action committed by the majority of people without fail.   This story is connected with the other but only slightly.  The movement of the story doesn't fully start until 00:43 showing a build up to the main narrative itself.
I feel as though the need for the male to ‘escape’ is important as this feeling is constantly shown by travel (represented by the bus & luggage) after being through a tough time shown by his mother quoting ‘don’t you think you’ve done enough’ near the start. It helps connect with the audience with the factor that many people have experienced this feeling and it will help them understand the situation.
Visual style/Mise-en-scene - The slow paced editing between the actual story and the band. This is used to give a sense of what is happening and not confuse the audience as it is slow and you can understand whats going on without much use of thought.  The camera uses a use of  point of view shots - the girl staring at the bus- it shows the distance she has to travel and gives a sense of understanding to the audience as it is a psychical struggle for her to reach it in time. The camera also uses a POV shot (point of view) this could be to help the audience relate to the actually story as it would give them a sense that they are there. The use of close ups of the girls face are used to help show her emotions. it makes it easier for the audience to understand and relate.

Conventional/Unconventional. - The use of the band in the video is to constantly remind the audience that this is a music video. It is there plain and simply to promote their music. The location the video is shot in is also used to connect the audience with the narrative. Being in both a household/flat and the street itself (everyday life).

What works? – The editing being really slow doesn’t confuse the audience. This helps them connect/relate with the story itself.
