Amnesty international- water boarding

Ideologies- That water boarding is in fact a form of torture used by the American government against terrorism.

Visual and narrative techniques- At the beginning of the advert it gets the audience hooked by not giving anything away about what the advert is about. They just use of a plain black background and water falling.  A number of different camera angles are used when the water is falling. This creates a type of mystery of the advert. Finally after the revealing of the mans face the slow but up beat music stops. The use of characters in this advert emphasises the key point Amnesty is trying to get across.

Advertising techniques- With the attackers faces being covered we are unable to blame anyone for what is happening to the man. This is then challenging our need for safety as it make us feel in danger and fear for the mans safety and well being. The use of shock tactic is a good technique in this advert, as when the music stop is bring a true reality to the advert. Making everything so much more real from the man trying to catch is breath to his screams.

What works/what doesn't- I really think the use of shock tactics in the advert is good as it does truly shock the audience. One of the things that stood out for me in this advert that doesn't work is the amount of time is spent looking at the water falling. As this may lose the consternation of the audience.
