Representations of Events
This article in the Daily Star focuses on the bride and pride of being British, and less on the wedding itself. The headline states 'ONE BEAUTIFUL BRIDE...ONE GREAT DAY TO BE BRITISH', this is representing the fact we should be proud to still have a royal family, and we should rejoice in celebration that there is a wedding. It also talks about the beauty of the bride, and the connotations that comes not only with brides, but with princesses. The headlines also gives off a sense that the royal wedding is more than just the union of two people but it is also the uni
on of the nation, as it will bring everyone together.
This article from The Daily Mail depicts a much more negative view of the Royal Wedding, and focuses more on the financial aspect of things. In the masthead it states 'most expensive security event in history'. This has described the Royal Wedding almost as an operation, and an expensive one at that, the funds of which will be payed for by the British taxpayer. It also highlights the possible risk to the event, as it is a 'security event' and therefore there are lots of possible risk that come with that. The picture itself also tells us something, Will and Kate seem to be slightly looking down on us, in expensive clothes, and in quite an affluent room. This furthermore helps to highlight the overall cost of the wedding.
This text is agin more of a negative text, by CBS news, and agin focuses on the financial and economic strain of the wedding on Britain. Throughout the video there is a voiceover of a man, stating all the different financial problems that will come with the wedding, he talks about not only the overall cost of the wedding, but also the growth to the economy. He interviews a number of tourists, who talk to him about the high cost of the city, as well as interviewing professionals, who talk to him about the overall cost of the wedding stating that Britain would lose more than it earns, and the loss of working days would be detrimental.
This article in people magazine showing Will and Kate as a happy couple, holding hands. It has a masthead of 'Love Reigns', which of course is a pun and a play on words. This article has decided to focus more on the love of the two, and on them being a couple, instead of focusing on the financial or actual event itself. Above the masthead it also states 'William and Catherine'
