Edward Scissor Hands

Edward Scissor Hands Review        Lewis Pinnington

Plot

Edward (Johnny Depp) is a young man who is created by his inventor (Vincent Prince), although he was never finished leaving him with shears for hands.

 Review

Edward Scissor Hands is a Tim Burton ‘classic’ that was created in 1990. As all movies from this time period it has a 90’s theme with the dress sense, music and even the humour. The movie successfully earns the title classic though, due to the creative cinematography, impeccable acting choice and costume design. The movie has a ‘family friendly’ vibe mostly although occasionally there is chilling moments with gunfire or violence. The plotline moves along at a fast pace, although occasionally there are confusing points that take multiple viewing to completely understand. This makes me personally believe the movie should have been given a higher age rating to be sure young viewers are not scared or confused. Johnny Depp most known for his work in the Pirates Of The Caribbean. Suits the role of Edward perfectly, showing lack of emotion or humanity at times and kindness in others as the role entails.  The movie itself was great for its era steering away from all of the 90’s cliques movies of that time period seemed bound by, an example of this is the physical humour that is so terrible that it is actually painful to watch.

Verdict

I believe the movie is great for a first time watch as it has fantasy and fiction from the notorious Tim Burton with Johnny Depp taking the lead, although this movie lacks the replay ability that all the great movies have. So I would advise watching this movie at ages from 15-18 before it becomes no longer relevant. Also you have to appreciate the darkness of the movie as most movies in the 90’s where happy and feel good.
