Media Diary

Text that changed my life: Fight Club
Fight Club changed my outlook on life in
many ways. It made me regard film as a serious art form and as an incredibly
effective method of telling story, rather than as a form of entertainment that is
simply used to pass the time. In turn this made me interested in becoming a
filmmaker, completely changing my intended career path into what I originally
intended. Since then, I have spent a lot of time pursuing this goal. The movie
also made me look differently at society and culture for men in the late 90s,
different to what I’d originally been exposed to through media texts such as
Friends. The film also made me become more perceptive and critical of society
as a whole, as while I don’t agree with the assertions that Fight Club makes
about society, the level of perception and cynicism that the film offers
regarding its analysis of society made me take deeper consideration regarding
society.
