Narrative 

Slumdog Millionaire's narrative is not one we're used to seeing, especially in a film that I personally see as a mainstream film. The narrative is unconventional and non-linear, meaning we don't see the film go in any particular order or direction, which would contribute to the idea that it is an unconventional, however the storyline and lots of other factors are what we have seen 100 times before, however it is fair to say that the narrative structure of the film isn't mainstream and quite challenging. We are thrown in to what seems to be the middle of a movie, having no idea what is taking place, this is completely different to what we are used to seeing in mainstream films, as the opening sequences usually set the scene for the entire film, whereas we have no idea what is going on, with the different shots of Jamal being tied up and all the money in the bathtub.  The fact that the film doesn't follow Todorov's theory of Narrative is also very interesting, considering that it is a mainstream film. Usually we see and Equilibrium, then the disruption, the recognition of the disruption, then an attempt to repair then a new equilibrium. The fact that it is almost three different stories with Jamal's three different stages of life helps to prevent the theory to take place, which is very interesting and again quite unconventional. The technique of the story being told in flashbacks is something we have seen before, however the way in which is
