Slumdog millionaire is a romantic drama based in the slums of india about a young couple (jamal & Lakita) who are constantly pulled apart but always seem to return to each other. The theme of destiny is an important ideology of the movie, the opening of the film and ending of the film raise the question on whether Jamal winning Who wants to be a millionaire and finding Latika are luck?,fate? or was it written? This enigma code is never answered in the movie which therefore leads the audience to make their own decision and reinforces Boyle's idea that he wanted the story to seem real to the audience. 

Although slumdog millionaire has many other scenes that are considered unconventional for its genre i.e the scenes of crime, violence etc. The over ridding genre is Romantic Drama, this is portrayed through the iconography used i.e, the parallel narrative, The big kiss, the Train station.  The film uses props character theory Jamal being the hero, Salim the anti-hero/ donor/ villain and Lakita being the princess. This reinforces the genre as these characters are the types that we would read about in fairytales at a young age, Boyle depicts these archetypes through the camera. Throughout most of the film Lakita is shot in POV through the eyes of the other characters and we are shown the same shit of her at the train station smiling  at Jamal, the high angle of the camera suggests that Latika is weak and needs Jamal to save her the lighting of this scene his high key presenting her as angelic which reinforces her role as the princess, she is merely a anaesthetic sensation for the audience. Jamal on the other hand is mainly shot with a LOw angle frame and mid shots to connote his masculinity and
