Analysis of a genre

The Drop trailer

The genre of the drop is a crime drama and there is many things which show this.

Characters
The character, cousin Marv is represented as being homicidal since they is many scenes where he is killing someone such as when he runs over one of the characters when he goes to open the trunk of the car. Cousin Marv is quite dramatic about his past with not being able to get over that he doesn't run the bar anymore even though it has been several years since he has. For Marv to forget about the bar not being his he brings up that on top of the bar is his name. Marv is seen as being someone who likes to think that they are a tough character by saying "when I walked into a bar people would sit up strait, they noticed" however Bob just mention to others that they had a gang one time but Marv wasn't really a tough guy.

The character, Bob is represented as a secretive character who doesn't show others to much about his dark past by just saying to people "I just tent the bar" to stop any convocations about what he does or has done which could show he has got something to hide. Bob mentions "there are some sins you just can't come back from" which is then followed up with Bob cleaning up money covered in blood, this represents Bob wants to clear the things he has done but it can never be as if he hasn't done it which is also shown by the bloody money with being that the money will never be as perfect as it once was. Bob tries to look out for cousin Marv, making sure he doesn't get into trouble with quotes such as "are you doing something desperate" and "are you doing something we can't clean up, this time" shows that Marv has done things before which there they just about got out of what they got into, Bob could be noticed as a guardian for Marv, looking out for him to make sure he doesn't make any mistakes he has previously made.
The plot
The plot is based around Bob's life of being a bar tender who has done something we are uninformed about in the film trailer but could be linked to being homicidal since we are shown money covered in blood. The film trailer shows what it is like to be a criminal with the bars being used as a place to launder the city's dirty money which the owners of the money would not want to have found by police. The film trailer also shows us what people would do to get there hands on the money with two people coming into the bar with guns to even have a chance as that bar being picked as the one which handles the drop and several deaths going on which is linked to the money.

Stars
Tom Hardy is known for being a tough guy in movies, usually being the criminal but in The Drop Tom Hardy might be a criminal but it seems like the character Bob wants to just live a normal life which resembles him cleaning blood money, showing he might have blood on his hands but he wants to try his best to make it better.

Iconography
They is several Iconography's in The Drop, the blood money is one of the iconography's, the blood money represents that it is a criminal genre. The blood money is a way of representing that the money is illegal and people have done illegal actions to obtain the money. The money is suppose to present Bob in this scene with the blood being all of the bad things he has done in his life, we know this because of him saying "there are some sins you just cant come back from" and the money is never fully clean b=at the end of this scene, it is a way of showing that Bob has done some illegal things in his life but no matter how much he wants to clean it up it will never be as if it hadn't happened. The gun also represents a crime genre in this film, after a character being unseen commits a homicide it shows how much goes on what people don't know about.

Another Iconography's in The Drop is cousin Marv's bar, this represents power in The Drop. We know this because Marv mentions how back when he owned the bar people would sit up straight when anyone saw him and notice. Currently cousin Marv's bar is owned by Chechen mobsters who have the power to store illegal money in the bar which is called a drop. We know without owning the bar cousin Marv is powerless when two people attempt to steal the bar. We see the Chechen mobsters have power when the Chechen mobsters have an unknown character in the back of their car being tortured for the reason to be sending a message to Bob and cousin Marv. We know that without Marv's bar be doesnt have any power when Bob says to Marv "are you doing something desperate, are you doing something what we can't clean up this time" this imply's that cousin Marv has done things desperately what could of put his life at risk to gain power and possibly his bar back, we know that he is planning something what could get him possibly killed from this quote which imply's that Marv makes reckless decisions because he doesn't want to be a shadow of his former self.
