Benny- Little Game music video
In this music video there is
use of direct mode of address and performance, which connects the artist to the
audience, considering the fact that this song is about gender roles and his
experience, it is very personal and builds tension. There is a linier narrative
the story in the video depicts what the song is about and the pace of the
editing matches that of the song.
The ideologies shown in this
music video are on gender roles, the video shows three young boys as typical stereotypes
until one of them reaches for a Barbie doll and the other boys go for him. This
displays the ideologies that children should be allowed to play with whatever
toys they want but they are already predetermined a role when they are born
which leads to them getting bullied, this is shown when the other boys turn
around and notice he is different.
In the next shot there are
three stereotypical girls, blonde ballerina, blonde business woman putting on
make up and then the school girl, they all are balancing books on their head in
unison until the school girl opens the book and much like the first shot the
other girls turn around, this shows that the gender role for girls is to be
dumb, blonde and blue eyed, and when one of them defies that role the others
turn against her, this shows that there is no double standards when it comes to
gender roles both men and women have them.
The editing in the video is
distorted slightly at the start but at the end the video becomes completely
distorted which looks like anarchy, this could represent the opinion of others
thinking that society would completely corrupt if there where no gender roles
because it is the audience watching it s o the editing is seen from the
audiences point of view (P.O.V).
