The All American
Rejects – It Ends Tonight
The video starts very slow with the music and the camera is
slowly tracking out from the lead singer sat at a piano. The piano looks very
old and worn out suggesting that he is tired and worn out from something but it
is unclear what from yet. In the background we can see a lot of used fireworks
scattered all over the floor. This is unclear as to why they are there but it
links to the piano because they are used and look like they should be discarded
but they haven’t because he stays. This could suggest he has been in a bad
relationship because he is finding it hard to let go of everything. We see a
long shot/establishing shot next because it is showing the audience that he is
alone because no one is around him and nothing even like structures can been
seen anywhere.
When he is outside the firework shop we see that this is set
before the start of the video because it is when he buys all of the fireworks. This
has a close – up of him because he is seen to be trapped when there because he
is in a tight frame with no one else in it. When he goes in we see two girls at
the front counter and they look at each other as if to say look who it is. This
again shows he may have been in a relationship with one of them. Probably the
one in black because there is a close-up of her. She is wearing black which
shows it may have been her fault. The lyrics are great with the video because
we see the relationship unfolding and the lyrics say “a wait is lifted” and “darkness
turns to light” showing he wanted to get out of the relationship and has now
seen the light because it is over.
Once they have the fireworks he leaves and doesn’t even look
at the girls so we definitely know it was them that caused him to feel like
this. They then go and set up the whole
display and during this moment everyone comes to see the display. The fireworks
show the light that he saw and now his light is bringing other people in
relationships together and to be happy. This is brilliant and the metaphor is
something I could use in my video. I like the idea of using metaphors to make
the audience think because it makes the video cleverer.
Everyone starts to light fireworks when they are playing and
even the girl from the firework shop comes and sees the light. This shows she
has seen the error of her ways and now that she has she wants to get back with
him and make things right. She lights a firework and it brightens her face so
we see that she has now stepped up and is ready for the future with him. Overall
I think the video is brilliant and shows a clear message to the audience and
how they all need to see the light. There are many things I can take from this
video as inspiration for my video and I believe that my video will be better
for seeing this.
