NOTES AND QUOTES

David Gauntlett - feminism: from book 'media gender and identity' quotes "feminism on the other hand is not necessarily seeb as the state of 'being a woman'; instead, it's perceived more as a stereotype of a women's role from the past".
"Today, magazines such as Cosmopolitan suggest ways in which cunning women might use 'feminine' tricks to get certain things from gullible en, but traditionally, femininity is far from being essential to the modern, female reader, instead, it is one technique amongst many, and an amusing, light-weight one at that."
Gauntett, in his book mentions Judith Butlers Queer Theory in the opening of chapter 7, which is also written about in her own book "Gender Trouble: feminism and the subversion of identity (1990)".

"24% of 11-16 year old girls are 'not at all happy with the way that they look' " ,"our attitudes towards women and women's equality are shaped in multiple ways including by our upbringing and personal experiences." and "women continue to be predominantly represented in passive and stereotyped roles in films and television" -  according to the Fawcett Society.

She also said that "if we can accept that modern women's magazines carry one kind of feminist argument to be assertive, confident, sexual, "true to yourself", demanding rights ad pleasures - then how can this view and the more 'traditional' feminist view to talk to each other? - www.theory.org.uk/mcrobbie.htm
