Friends - Media Diary 2

A piece of media that I have consumed this week is 'Friends'. 'Friends' is an American television sitcom that aired in 1994 and ran for 10 years until 2004. It was produced by Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions and was also in association with Warner Bros Television. The executive producers of the show were David Crane, Marta Kauffman and Kevin S Bright. I found the show on Comedy Central where it is aired everyday at different times. The purpose of the media text is to entertain which is shown with the comedic nature of the show.

The shows target audience could be anyone whether they are married, in a relationship or single. This is because the show deals a lot with different relationship status' including the difficulties of marriage and divorce. Also, I think 'Friends' is targeted at working class people as that is what the characters are therefore they maybe able to relate to them.I think that 'Friends' is aimed at both men and women due to there being 3 males and 3 females in the main cast however i do think the show is primarily aimed at women because it deals a lot with love and relationships which women are stereotypicallly more interested in. The show is aimed at mainstreamers as it is extremely popular therefore people will watch so that they can talk to others about it and even join in on some of the jokes. As well as this, I think the show is aimed at 'groupies' and 'trendies' as the audience may want to be accepted by those around them and gain the admiration of their peers.

My reaction to the media text was positive as I have been a fan of the show since I can remember and have watched every episode many times. Personally I enjoyed watching it because the show never fails to make me laugh and all of the jokes still seem funny to me even though I ave heard them all many times before. I would seriously recommend that anyone who has not seen the show should go and watch it because it is, in my opinion, the best television show ever to be aired. The show is a classic and it never gets boring. People will choose to consume this media text for entertainment and to make them laugh. They may watch it for escapism and to help them forget about any problems they may be facing and just relax for a while. It is an amazing TV show that you can watch with your friends or family as it has a great balance of comedy and romance which will appeal to may people.

Some people may react differently to the text due to their religion. Although the show deals with religious subjects, it mainly focuses around Christianity and Judaism which people of other religions may not agree with. The show includes characters from all different ethnicities such as American, Jewish, French, Italian and Scottish however their are many more ethnicities that the show does not include which may make people of theses other ethnicities react differently to the text.
