Media Text: Friends (TV Show)

This media text appears to the mainstream audience. This sit-com appears to the romantics as there are several romances throughout the series. It also appears to the girly-girls too as there are many friendships within the series with Rachel, Phoebe and Monica. There are male friendships too with Chandler, Ross and Joey. The comedic side of the show also appears to the mainstream as the humour of the show could appear to all ages as kids are also involved as well as crude adult humour. The scenarios in this show are so relatable to ordinary people that the mainstream audience cannot help but relate and identify with the characters and storylines. The likability of characters also make the audience want to watch them more which is why it was so popular and had so many viewers. It doesn't appeal to aspirers as it doesn't give the audience anything linked to their status and it doesn't boost their self esteem either. This show doesn't offer any control to the succeeders and it doesn't offer any form of escape for explorers. Friends hardly changes as it is known for normality and minor changes per episode therefore it is ideal for the mainstream as it offers the same entertainment each episode with lack of change.
