reception theory - in practice

Just Eat
The advertisement is promoting an app, 'Just Eat' where you can search in what type of food you want tap on it and it gets delivered to your house or where every you are. It show 4 typical middle aged men in a living room, supposedly deciding what to have to eat, then one of the men holds up his phone showing the Just Eat app, and starts singing, they then start singing all together and are all dressed in white doing unified dancing while still singing. They are singing the tune to 'Everybody' by The Backstreet Boys, hence they are wearing all white and doing the dancing in unison like the boy band do in the video, however they twisting the words so that it explains the type of food you can get on the app. The original words in the song begin with "Everybody yeah yeah, rock your body" the advert sings, "Everybody, yeah, yeah, chicken satay." the advert carries on like this replacing the words with Chinese, Indian etc. foods, in the original "Backstreets back, alright!" the advert replaces with "Chinese food, tonight!"
The target audience i would say would range from 'A' - upper middle class to 'E' - people at lowest level of income, if you are old or young, employed or unemployed everybody at least once a week purchases some form of takeaway food, whether it be a chippy or Indian food. Studies show that 73% of the British population purchase takeaway food at least once a week. The target audience is displayed in the advert,  middle aged men gathered together on a Friday night, these men could be from the upper middle class working as lawyers or doctors, or some of them could be plumbers/ manual workers, it shows that everyone can use the app. Bankers are sure to have family's, who surely order chinese food from their local takeaway, on a friday night to watch with their children and partner or friends round the telly. its the same for students who are classified as 'E' the lowest level on the Income/ Status Model, they gather with friends at each other's apartments.
Someone who would take a preferred reading of the text, could understand the humour and impersonation the advert was trying to convey, the fact that the song used is recognisable, and the way the men are impersonating the boy band and sort of 'taking the Michael'  adds to the humour and amusement the advert is portraying. The advert is trying to display how the app cn make your staurday night easier and tastier. "Tap the app and get that mini fist pump feeling," the voiceover says this at the end of the advert, this implying that the app can give you not only ease but great satisfaction, we all do that underlying 'yes!' under our breath or even out loud when your takeaway food finally arrives, the advert also displays that we don't even have to go to the place to order, wait and receive the food to go back home, you simply tap on the food you want, and it gets delievered to your house, the ease and security of the app is what gives it's appealing message aswell as its catchy tune to the recognisable song used.
