The themes of comedy are: anarchic - the stream of humour is continuous throughout the whole film, gross-out - humour is tasteless or disgusting, parody - pokes fun at someone or something throughout the whole film, romantic - deals with love in a light way, screwball - shows binary opposites between scenes and slapstick - .

A comedy always occurs in bright places, often in locations that are known for social events that are used. However, it can depend on the type of the comedy. For teen comedies, schools or small towns may be used. For social comedies, homes or bars may be used. For generic places, towns, cities and well populated areas will be used.

The camera work used for most comedies is naturalistic and the characters are filmed in a way that shows that no one is better - they are all on one level. High shots are used to capture the whole environment and medium shots are used to capture all the characters expressions.

Sound is important within the comedy genre.
Diegetic sound must be loud and clear to ensure that it is heard and, therefore, can be laughed at.
No-diegetic sound can be used to place emphasis on certain scenes. If music is used, it will usually be upbeat.

Lighting is commonly bright or natural - this helps to create a realistic environment. Scenes are usually in daylight.
bright and happy colours are used to express happiness.

Props are of a high importance within the comedy genre, props that have a great chance of comedic use are used. Perhaps props that can be used to hurt the characters; footballs, golf clubs, etc.

The character types used are usually accident prone, idiotic, intelligent but socially awkward, sarcastic, or regular people who has many accidents occur around them.
Characters tend to wear bright clothing
