The song Weapon of choice by 'Fatboy Slim' is conventional for the House music genre, the same can be said for its music video.
The visual style for the video is fairly ordinary and realistic in most instances. Christopher Walken is wearing a standard suit and is dancing around an abandoned but normal hotel lobby. The camera is focused on Walken for the entire video; utilising tracking shots to follow his movement in addition to some close-up shots. The editing usually cuts to a different angle of Walken's location so the audience can take in the absurd situation. The lighting is simple and clearly not the focus of the video, as it mimics standard hotel lighting.
'Weapon of choice' has no solid narrative; with the video only featuring a loose story to use for comedic purposes. This is because the song lacks cohesive lyrics, being primarily made up of instrumental sections and voice samples. The closest thing to a connection between the song and the video is that the pace of the choreography matches that of the song.
The video is conventional for the 'House' genre for several reasons. The song and video are upbeat but don't feature a solid narrative between the two. While only from a singular actor, the video is packed with dancing like most 'House' music videos. 'Fatboy Slim' is not featured in the video itself like many other artists within the 'House' genre. The unique aspect of the video is the way it challenges the audience's expectations for comedy by making Christopher Walken, an actor usually associated with crime films, into a dancing and carefree businessman.
On one hand the way the video challenges expectations and makes full use of the environment (dancing on tables, escalators, etc.) is great. But on the other hand the video can feel repetitive at points because of its limited location and premise.
(directed by Spike Jonze)
you could say right at the end of the video, you see a close up of Christopher Walken's face and his face looks confused or shocked, this use of the close up shows up the actors emotions without him saying any words.
