Artist: Dolly Parton
Song: Together You and I
Visual Style/Mise en scene
The song starts off with medium close ups of Dolly. It then uses close ups of people holding hands. Dolly Parton is known for her glamour like her outfits, makeup and hair so we see this in this video as she has all three of those things. Panning shots are used to show all the people standing holding hands. Many walking room shots are used in this video as she is making her way around all the people representing them all as one. The editing in this video is very fluent which matches the style of the song. The actors in the video tend represent a wide range of people from different classes cultures and ideologies. Its presenting by showing a series of these people standing next to each other. The quick editing of the people of the people in the video show how it makes them look like they are together.
Narrative including techniques
I think the narrative in this video is portrayed in a very clever current way as it shows all cultures, races, beliefs, etc. It shows how everyone is one and no matter how diverse the word is, its always better when we come together as one. A part in the video shows a young child who has lost her hair smiling and she is standing next to nurses or doctors which shows how they could have made a difference by looking after her. The representation that has been used in this video is the holding of hands this represents the theme of friendship. The videos bright lighting gives off a positive vibe therefore, it can automatically makes the audience feel more lifted and happy.
Conventional/Unconventional
This video is conventional as it uses performance to camera which is used in most music videos we see. The pace of the walking matches the temp of the song which makes the video seem professional and well thought out. I think the video is unconventional as it is very simple but effective at the same time it gets a message across without having to explain.
What works/What doesn't?
The connection the artist seems to have with the audience and the people in the video makes it very inviting to watch. The fact that Dolly smiles throughout the video reinforces the positive happy tone.
