The Poltergeist (2015)
The Poltergeist is a horror film. It is a typical horror film because a family of a mum, a dad and three children move into a new house. This is a typical horror film purely because the director has decided to use young children as the main characters, this is done in many other horror films. The scenes are all shown to be inside the house where all of the unexplainable things happen. This is also typical of a horror film because most horror films tend to set the film in a 'haunted' house. The trailer starts with the family driving to their new home, the older girl complains about the phone lines and how they are going to give her a tumour, this connotes the idea that the tumour is the poltergeist. At the start everyone seems to be satisfied with the new house, when the younger brother and sister are playing and the boys hair magically spikes up they say "mum we like this house" suggesting that they don't know what is around the corner. The mother and the father even say that things are starting to look up for the family. Because the setting is the house, the things that happen are also typical of a horror film. There are jump scares, lights flickering, dolls that are clowns and most of the scenes show the house to be in darkness. These are the things that make a horror film effective because they all give the audience a fright therefore it adds a sense of suspension. One thing that stood out to me was the closet, the boy is in bed when the storm takes place. A clowns laugh is heard to be coming out of his bedroom closet and he goes
