Artist: Queen.
Track: We Will Rock You.
Genre: Classic Rock.
Visual Style/Mise-en-scene:
The music video starts with a long shot of the band in an outside location and then there a multiple fast paced close ups of the band members faces and some of their feet tapping on the floor and their hands clapping. Throughout the video there are close ups of the lead singer lip-syncing the lyrics are sometimes the camera tracks backwards to show a long show of the band. The pace of all of these different shots is quite fast which matches the pace of the track and lyrics. Also, the band are wearing very stereotypical clothing for a rock band suck as leather jackets and star-shaped sunglasses.
Narrative:
There is not music of a story behind this music video. The whole video consists of just one scenario which is the band singing therefore it is difficult to spot a narrative if there is one. The narrative is shown through the lyrics of the song whilst the music video is just them singing the song in an outdoor location. The video doesn't add much to the story.
Conventional/Unconventional:
One conventional aspect of this music video is that the band stand looking at the camera whilst lip-syncing to their lyrics. This is an aspect that many artist use therefore it is not unique. Despite this, the music video is quite unique in the fact that there is only one scenario throughout the whole video which is the band singing. Often when artists use the lip-syncing technique, they include other shots and scenarios whereas Queen have decided not to do so which makes their video unique.
What works/What doesn't:
What works in this music video is the creativeness behind it. In this video they use body parts as instruments such as their feet and their hands. Although the track was created with real instruments, the music video makes it look like the band are making the music themselves using just their hands and feet. What also works is the tracking shots. These tracking shots break the video up slightly so that it is not just different shots edited together. The tracking shots make the video more interesting to watch and stop the video becoming bored which id likely due to the one scenario.
