Conventions of Western Film

The main plot for western films is the main archetypal good vs bad such as Sheriff vs Wranglers or Cowboys vs Indians. This is a very generic plot however the variation comes in its story. There are many variations to Westerns such as epic western, comedy western, romantic western or post apocalyptic western.

The main props to signify its western theme are guns (revolvers and rifles) and horses.
The main setting for westerns are towns, generally saloons are used however, certain films use ranchs and plantations in order to get the western message across.
