Visual style/mies-en-scene-
The use of montage is used to explore the couples life from children up until later adult life and now their relationship has progressed. A selection of different characters are used that look as similar as possible  to convey the fact that this is the same couple throughout. The use of medium close ups and two shots to explore their close relationship and explore their love throughout their life time and how they have developed individually as people but together as a couple. In the last shot there is a close up and a two shot combined of the couple which gradually zooms in closer on them as the wife is dying to focus on the facial expressions of the husband and the raw emotion he is feeling at that particular point. The camera also pans around to get a clear view of the change in setting and now reveals they are at a hospital.

Narrative-
Flash back is a key technique used in this music video to show the progression of their lives and the change over time.  The story is about an average heterosexuals couples lives and the difficulties you face as you take on life together as a pair. Each section has 2 separate characters each with their individual story line for that moment in time which all come together to create their whole lives. Despite the old woman dying at the end there is a strong message behind it that love is eternal and you can still love someone after they have passed away. The lyrics support the visuals and support the idea that life is always unexpected and no matter how much we plan our lives, there is always other things that are meant to happen that we have no control over for example death.

Conventional/unconventional-
Conventional-
. The use of a heterosexual couple that fall in love and face many problems along their way, but love ends up conquering all
. It's a very unique story line, could be called predictable
.audience expeditions are met that the man won't give up on his wife and he will continue to love her despite the circumstances.

What works well-
Well- The use of a clear montage to tell a complex story I've taken long period of time
. The use of different characters to play them at different times, careful casting to ensure they look as similar as possible

  1. The beginning shots of the music video are very dark and this is used as foreshadowing of what happens later in the video. As well as this, the first shots are in slow motion, suggesting that time is limited and again helping to suggest a narrative resolution towards the end. This music video breaks the audiences expectations, because it explores the couples life from it's end to the beginning and through this, we see the use of light getting brighter as they explore younger, much happier memories. When the couple are laughing and seem to be having a good time, the use of close ups and quick cuts are used to portray how many of these times were apparent in the relationship. To juxtaposition this, when the couple was pictured arguing the camera tracked backwards and used slow motion to make this shot look longer, however suggesting that there were not many times like this. As the music video progressed, we began to see the start of the man and woman's relationship and this was apparent through the use of props and editing. The video looked more grainy and vinyls were also used showing the audience how long the couple had been together.
