Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran

Firstly, a very positive point is that the editing is perfectly in time with the change of pace in the music. This provides the audience with a sense that this is a very professional creation and it is very satisfying to see the shots change with the beat. Lots of different camera angles are also used in this video. Firstly, high angle shots are used as a method of intimidation from the source behind the camera. Also, tracking shots are used in order to follow the movements of the character and to give the audience a feeling that they are actively involved in the video. Extreme close-ups are used to provide a connection between the artist and the audience, through eye contact.

The narrative of this video is very unconventional. Firstly, its setting is very unusual, it is filmed in the jungles of Sri Lanka. This provides the audience with an element of mystery and possibly intimidation as they are unfamiliar with this environment so are unaware of what to expect from the video. Furthermore, the setting connotes the metaphorical animal chase of him chasing the woman he lusts after. This provides a very creating narrative that almost has the audience on edge as we typically associate chases with thriller/drama, so provides the element of suspense to the video encouraging the audience to watched the whole thing.

This video is slightly conventional to others in its genre due to its use of lip synching/miming. This is very typical in other pop videos therefore presents some familiarity and reminds the audience that they are watching a pop video due to the associations they have previously made to the genre.
I believe that the videos use of a visual metaphor, in relation to the jungle chase and animal behaviour, is very effective as it links both to the title and lyrics of the song whilst providing an unconventional, alternative edge to the narrative; allowing this video to be differentiated from others of its genre.
