Mine - Taylor Swift (Music Video Research 9)

Artist: Taylor Swift.
Track: Mine.
Genre: Country/Pop.

Visual Style/Mise-en-scene:
Throughout this music video, there are multiple shots edited together and multiple scenarios are shown. The pace of the video perfectly compliments the pace of the track. There are many medium close ups (MCUs) of the couple when they are together and some longs shots when the singer is alone singing to the camera. At the end of some scenes, there are tracking shots that track backwards. These tracking shots signify that something else is about to happen. The video is filmed in a small town and starts in a small country cafe which is quite typical of the country genre of the song.

Narrative:
The music video follows the relationship between the singer and a male actor. It starts with the first time they meet and presents ideologies of love at first sight. Often between shots, we are shown Taylor Swift singing in a forrest surrounded by handing pictures. These pictures represent different stages in their relationship and some of them help the video progress by  introducing flash backs of their past. The video follows them from the start of their relationship, through some tough times, through marriage and ends when they have children therefore a clear narrative solution is shown.

Conventional/Unconventional:
This video is very stereotypical of music videos, specifically those for songs about relationships. The video shows traditional conventions such as singing to the camera. It is also conventional as the story shows them falling in love, going through a tough time and then sorting it out. The video is also conventional as it ends with a 'happily ever after.'

What works/What doesn't:
What works in this music video is the hanging pictures surrounding the singer in the forrest. This works because the pictures shows the actors memories and the couples relationship. It also works because these pictures link to flashbacks which help the music video to progress.
