Has the representation of women changed.

I think that the representation of women has changed a lot post 1980s as they have been portrayed differently in the media as now a days they have been shown as independent and powerful because in the past the women have been shown to be doing house work and on how to impress a man but magazines like cosmopolitan show how women can still dress and look nice for themselves and how to take care of themselves without having to do it for a man.

The background of the magazine is pink and that colour is mostly associated with women so it could signify empowerment and dominate as it is covering the whole page where as, if the cover was a different colour it could take away the focus of women.

The masthead reads 'tres chic' which means very stylish so it reinforces the appearance of women  and how she can again look good without needed approval from men. Even though, some the cover lines are quite negative and it shows the dark side of being a women the magazine overall is usually a very empowering for most women as it offers tips and tricks of how they can look their best.
