Target Audience - Grand Theft Auto’s target audience would be people who enjoy playing video games, preferably over the age of 18 because of the subject of the text but that’s not to say that under 18’s don’t play it. They also mainly target men due to the male characters and sexist stereotypes of women but women do also play it.
Your reaction to the text - I am thoroughly enjoying playing GTA V. I think the graphics are absolutely amazing and so is the storyline. I also enjoy the fact that it’s an open world game like Red Dead Redemption so if I feel like I’m progressing through the game too fast I can just go and have a game of golf.
Why some people consume the text - I think people consume GTA as a way to escape from their normal working day. The game can also help you relax after a busy day when you just want to sit down, drink a cup of coffee and drive a simulated car carelessly.
Could some people react in different ways to the text? - Yes, there are lots of different opinions concerning GTA and it has caused controversy ever since the first one back in 1999. People believe it’s a bad influence on children as it condones violence, murder and mayhem. Grand Theft Auto has even been named the most controversial game in history by The Guinness World Records in 2008.
