Media Diary Week 3 Keeping Up With The Kardashian's Text Analysis

The target audience for KUWTK can be defined by 4 Audience Classification models. The first model is the income/status model, this helps us group audiences based on their income or profession. I think the audience that would consume KUWTK would be the E, D and C2 group which range from lowest level of income/unemployed to skilled working class people - the reason for this is because people who aren't in an extremely important professional job are usually those who would consume reality TV shows like this one. The show is about a very rich family who seemed to originally get their wealth from doing nothing but exposing their lives, something those on lower income would be intrigued in watching. The second model is Audience Profiling, this is used by creators of text when they want to have an ideal person in mind who would consume their media, therefore they think of 15 simple questions to try and get to know their ideal consumer well. Consumers of KUWTK would be female, aged 14-22, without a family, have the self image that they aspire to be in a better economical place than they are now, be in the C2 class, have a decent education, be white/mixed, not be overly interested in politics, live in English speaking countries and most likely not too interested in religion. I think this because the Kardashian girls are known for being very witty, care free, hardworking now and embrace their mixed ethnicity which i think the same type of audience would relate to.

The third model is Young and Rubicams 4C's which groups audiences into seven segments depending on their beliefs, needs and aspirations in their lives. I think the group this audience would be in is The Mainstream. Mainstream audience members seek out the big established popular 'family' brands. The Kardashians are arguably the most famous family in the world and are known for their powerhouse status despite their few bickers. The Mainstream want to follow what is popular and The Kardashians certainly are. The Audience members key needs in life would be social needs and belonging, and to receive esteem from others around them.

The final model is the Lifestyle Categories Model, this profiles audience members into groups based on their attitudes towards life. KUWTK consumers would be part of the 'Groupies' category because groupies just want to be accepted by those around them - as The Kardashians are a popular mainstream family brand Groupies would enjoy having something similar to talk about with other members of the mainstream around them. With these 4 models i've been able to identify the type of audience member that would watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians - all 4 models are still widely used in media to this day and help target audiences around the world.
