Slumdog Millionaire attracted audiences from all over the world by doing many different stuff that gets them to go to the cinema or to get it on DVD. Things like trailers and posters are one of the main ways film companies use to attract audiences.
With the trailer, it gets audiences to identify many different things like who the main characters are and they get a sense of what the film is about. With Slumdog, in the trailer we identify the main characters with Jamal and Latika as we get the feeling that its a Romantic Drama film. Some people at first from just watching the trailer may not think that its a Romantic Drama, they may just see it as a Romantic film because of the word 'Destiny' that is always used, but after watching the film you then know that it is a Romantic Drama with all the different events that happen in the film.
The poster attracts a wide range of audiences because they will be everywhere you go like on billboards, buses, bus stops etc.
The use of the critic reviews on the posters also identifies to audiences that this is a good film.
With Slumdog Millionaire, there will be many different opinions as to the film meeting or challenging their expectations.
Slumdog meets their expectations because it is typical of a kind of Romantic film. In this one we see Jamal find Latika and of course get the last question right on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. This was expected as the audience like the mainstream like to see a happy ending because its typical.
The type of things in which Slumdog may challenge the expectations of the audience is that people may not think that this is a Romantic Drama at times due to the things that stop Jamal and Latika being together throughout the film.
The different themes in the movie is love, this is the main one that it is centred around between Jamal and Latika and this is what is going to attract audiences, because the romance is some people's favourite type of genre.
The actors arent well known which gives the audience something new to see, so that could persuade them to go and watch it because it isnt the typical film with the likes of Tom Cruise involved in it.
Danny Boyle may be a big factor to get audiences to go and see Slumdog because of his own uniqueness for making films, this would attract his own fan base that he would already have.
A good way that would get people to go the cinema to watch Slumdog is one of the Uses & Gratifications model which is Social Interaction, this is people who have already seen the movie tell their friends and family in which they will do the same and so on. Social networking sites is another use of Social Interaction like on Twitter and Facebook, especially on Twitter where a load of people can be talking about it, which eventually it starts to trend and the word gets round so fast which will make more and more people go and see it. This can play big role in attracting audiences constantly.
