NSPCC Cartoon Boy

NSPCC Cartoon Boy

Ideologies
This advert is trying to tell us that children are getting the sort of abuse that normal cartoon characters would get and that is could get to the extent where they end up dying not like a cartoon character but a real person because real people do not bounce back from the sort of abuse that child got. So this advert wants the audience to ring the NSPCC if they know anything about any children getting abused because they might be like the boy in their advert anytime soon.

Visual and Narrative techniques

This advert uses a cartoon boy for a specific reason and this reason is that this makes the real boy look like he is something no one cares about because say if a cartoon character got hurt in lets say wacky race no one cares about them. So as soon as the cartoon boy turns into a real boy at the end it gives this shock factor to the advert because suddenly we realise this has all happened to a real child so we want to do something about. In this advert the environment were cartoon boy is getting abused is never light it is always dark and gloomy and this is to represent the mood of the advert as it is not a good place to be and it is also showing that abuse is not a good thing.

Advertising techniques

Also to grab our attention the cartoon boy wets himself when getting abused and this really does shock us as this is showing us how young the child is but also how badly abused the child is getting. So this makes us want to protect as many children as we can because we do not want this to happen to any child. Also what shocks us is the reasons why the child is getting abused for example watching the TV or even just sitting on his bed to the father this just all seems like fun so I believe this is why it connects with the audience so much and makes us want to protect children. One very important shot of the advert is when the dad storms into the child's bedroom this is because we are given a POV from the dad's perspective which makes us feel like we are actually him which makes us feel for the boy even more because we are bing forced to to try and abuse the boy when we don't want to.

What works/What doesn't

I believe that the style of the advert is very well done because it adds to the shock value right at the end of the advert. Also all the close-up camera shots works perfectly because this always makes us connect with the child and makes us feel even more for him. Finally the little speech by the boy apart from the end when the dad storms in at the end really adds to the shock as this shows how long the abuse has gone on for and how bad it has also gotten but also how hard it is for the children to speak out I believe everything with this advert works very well nothing is too badly done.
