Typical of the genre

 Format

Celebrity panellist shows like these all generally  have the same format. Normally they all run in a series however unlike maybe a crime drama, celebrity panelist shows do not have many episodes in a series, the maximum amount of episodes usually being about 10/12. These shows don't necessarily have an ending or move to a resolution, the topics spoken about are usually situated on the things that have happened during the week or recent however the final episodes they usually do something a bit different from the previous episodes, maybe adding a theme like in celebrity panellist shows such as Celebrity Juice

were they perhaps have a 'easter special' or something along those lines.

This genre of show is mainly scheduled to broadcast in the night time around 8/9 O'clock as some of the things discussed may involve adult content. They are usually on once a week and on the same day each week.

Appeals

There are many reasons as to why Celebrity panel shows appeal to their audience. Using the Uses and Gratifications Theory, Personal identification may be one of the main reasons why this appeals to the audience as a lot of the topics that are discussed by the celebrities are things that may be relatable to a persons everyday lives or they say something that the audience might feel but never say them themselves but in a humorous way. An audience might also aspire to the comedians that are on the panel and see them as role models; something they want to be. Entertainment and social interaction are also primary appeals to the audience. Entertainment being the humour and comedic skills that are used in  the program allowing the audience to just laugh and escape from the worries or problems they endure in their everyday lives. Comedy panelist shows like this one in particular may also spark debates  as some of the things said by the comedians come across as taboo which may cause controversy over the media. This genre of TV show may also appeal to certain social groups.

Target Audience

The audience for this type of genre can appeal to quite a few people. Initially, using Young and Rubicam's theory, it is clear that these type of genres may be targeted towards those who are The Mainstreamers as there core need in life is security so knowing this is on every week builds a routine for them so their needs are satisfied. It also gives them the opportunity to talk about it with other as it is a popular TV show and Mainstreamers see things as 'we' rather than 'me'. This also threads into the lifestyle category, the groupies, as they want to be accepted by those around them so if everybody is watching this it will make them feel more accepted. Alternatively, this show could appeal the Rebels as this show is something that pushes boundaries and rebels might agree with this whether it is the right thing to agree with or not.

Setting

Celebrity panelist shows also tend to follow the same format and are mainly filmed inside a studio where the producers have a lot more control over the lighting giving the show giving it perhaps a similar yet different atmosphere to this type of genre that already exist. the stereotypical setting of a celebrity panelist show consists of one main desk in the middle where the host of the program will sit and either side have two more larger desks each containing up to 3 or four people. having these two separate desks either side of the host gives the audience the impression that there may be some lighthearted competition as it looks as though they are i teams and the lights which are usually light colours such as blues, yellows, greens, and reds also connote the lighthearted atmosphere and not something to be taken to seriously. Specifically 8 out of ten cats which is a comedy show this reflects that.

TV Narrative

Celebrity panel shows don't necessarily have a narrative that each episode follows however each episode usually follows a certain format and actions codes that carry the episodes forward towards the 'final round'. Although these types of shows are usually held in teams, unlike an actual gameshow. they are not necessarily competitive or if elements of competitiveness is shown it is usually in a comedic way which again is not actually serious. Usually in each round a question will be asked or discussed and rather than the show telling the stories it is the panelist telling the stories, this could also be used as an action codes as it may restart new topics and carry the show forwards. Within each round and throughout the show, it will contain a mixture of stand up humour to witty banter that is passed through all members of the panel and where as in a TV narrative there would be flashback or flash forwards, celebrity panel interpret this by using video clips from different medias or somebody even create pictures that would never really happen but is a possibility. For instance this picture of Jennifer Aniston was shown on Tv show celebrity juice mockingly after the dialog 'this is what she will look like' clearly this is not what she will look like however it could be considered as what a tv narrative would call a flash forward.
