Docu-soap setting analysis
EVERYTHING (INT. AND EXT.) Shot on location (nothing is shot in a studio as the shows are about reality so nothing is scripted etc.)
The locations in documentaries basically rely on where the character is/is going. A good example for different locations in documentaries is American Pickers. The two main characters Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz travel around america looking for places to buy things to put in their shop, these places consist of anything from peoples garages, restaurants and secret warehouses to a mans giant hand built eco house. This vast range of locations would normally bring an aspect of unfamiliarity with each new episode but since Mike and Frank spend most of their time surrounded by shelves full of random junk as they root through it, the viewer always feels 'at home' with Mike and Frank and you only really realise how far they actually are from home when they very occasionally call their friend Danielle who keeps their shop while they're out picking.
On their travels, Mike and Frank meet interesting people famous and respected.
