Media Diary

The Walking Dead is a week by week series about a man named Rick a local sheriff who is the protagonist of the series, it beings with him waking up from  a 7 month a coma after being shot and finds himself in a world infected by a zombie apocalypse, using his quick mind and police training he is on a mission to find his son and wife and find a sense of security in a new world he knows very little about. Whilst looking for his family he encounters hordes of the un dead and struggles to survive and along the way he meets different kinds of people and works out different ways to survive. The main genres of the series are Thriller, Horror and most importantly Thriller which helps make it more entertaining. In the entire series there isn't a ordinary moment, everything is different and a lot more tense and keeps you on edge. With the constant threat of dying and finding ways to survive and reshape their ruined lives. With the idea of "Hunt or be hunted" there is more than just zombies that are a threat to Ricks survival.

The constant feeling of pressure and danger in The Walking Dead helps make it more appealing and entertaining, that matched with the constant struggle to survive helps make it different to other shows because it is unusual and different to other shows on TV. The show is aimed at a wide audience but mainly teenagers or younger adults who would be able to with stand the gory and violent parts in the series, it involves a lot of blood and bad language which would be inappropriate for people of a certain age and also minor sexual references.

I myself love The Walking Dead, I love the constant tension and nervous feeling you get towards certain characters and scenarios. I found out about The Walking Dead is from a lot of my friends who had been watching it from the beginning and said it was just as good as Breaking Bad which is another very popular TV series so I thought that obviously I had to see for myself what all the fuss is about, so I decided to watch it and from the beginning I loved it. The storyline of the series and how each episode ends on a cliff hanger helps make it more interesting because you feel as if you have to watch the next episode to find out what has happened in the end of the previous one. The fact that The Walking Dead has been voted as one of the most popular series and is highly rated at a 8.7 star on IMBD, which helps it reach a wider audience who are interested in what is new and popular but also the kinds of people who like a bit of difference too because the series is rather popular, but also the topic of zombies and apocalyptic scenarios isn't always what everyone is interested so The Walking Dead has themes on relationships and social standings which have been affected by the apocalypse, which helps make it different to other series and films alike it.

I believe that people who enjoy thrillers and apocalyptic films and also series would enjoy The Walking Dead because it gives a constant feel of fear and nervousness towards the characters and there experiences, it also makes you feel empathetic towards them because it makes you wonder "what would I do in that situation?". It would also be enjoyable for people who enjoy films with a unique storyline because it is different to the ordinary zombie films and series. I think it would not be suitable for younger children because it could be too gory and scary for them and the language used may be too much for them, I also think it may be too much for the older generation due to the language in it and also the minor sexual references.
