Over the weekend I watched the film 'Captain Phillips'. This film affected me because I knew the whole way through while all the events that went on, on the ship was a true story so this emotionally engaged me into the film and immediately made me more interested.
The film is about the ship U.S. containership Maersk Alabama transporting good across the sea to another country when it is overtaken by Somali pirates taking everyone on the ship hostage. The captain of the ship 'Captain Phillips' is taken away from the ship and is taken hostage all together when the navy come to try and save the ship and its passengers and finally Captain Phillips. This story affected me a lot because I've always been scared of ships however this film increased my fear of them because I never even knew pirates still existed and never knew these types of things happened before watching this film.
After watching this film I wanted to find out more about the actual ship and the people on it so I researched about it to find out more.
This film made me want to watch more true story films because I never realised how effective they can be, I became so engaged in the film and was surprised about the fact that these things actually happen and go on in the world that I am unaware of.
