Time to change - mental health advert

Ideology

Just because people have mental health issues does not mean they will act erratically to you if you ask them a question. The impact you can have one a person who is dealing with mental health issues can be positive or negative however you shouldn't be scared to ask someone how they are feeling because of what they are dealing with, this could make them feel better.

Characters/visual style

The setting of the advert is in a work office where most people will spend the variety of their everyday life so the audience will be familiar with this setting. The camera uses MCU and CU of the two characters faces to show their facial expressions to show that they are maybe not on the same page when we see the first few imagined reactions in the way the man thinks that Dave will react. At the end it uses a two shot to show that the two men are level and can have a conversation and just because someone is dealing with 'mental' health issues doesn't mean they are going to act mental towards you if you ask them a question.

Lines of Appeal

There are a few shock tactics used in this advert like when the man asks Dave for the first time how he is feeling and Dave reacts to ringing someone via his shoe which is completely abnormal especially when he starts shouting down the shoe about the other man showing some concern. Enigma codes are used in this advert making the audience ask why would Dave want to talk to anyone? however we realise that sometimes someone asking us how we are feeling can make you feel better. the message from this advert is to show that asking someone how they are feeling could influence their self-esteem (Maslow) and their psychological needs.
