Somewhere only we know - John Lewis
The start of this video shows a background of trees and birds coming together like a drawing and when the camera moves down we can see that the drawing suddenly becomes real and we see that this is the video for the John Lewis advert from 2013s Bear and Hare. This was the song used in the famous John Lewis advert that told the story of a bear and a hare. The advert was excellent and the video shows you how the advert was made and what effort went into making it. This makes the video unique as I have not seen a video like this before.
The video keeps showing different clips from the advert and then how they were made. This is clever because it shows you the behind the scenes and the work that went into it. We see the bear and hare with each other walking through the forest and we see that it is actually not animated but instead it is pictures of the two characters and then the background is actually a real model which you don't see on the advert. This is good because you see the advert from a different perspective and that is what I like to see in music videos.
When we see the pictures being drawn for the scenes we get to see the preparation that was needed for just a minute advert for their company. This makes you feel great full because you see how much effort was actually put in to making the advert for your enjoyment and what actually goes on when they bring you their Christmas adverts.
The next important part of the video is when we see the sets being built. On the advert you can't see the small details like the little branches on the floor that just give it that look of completion. Especially the Christmas tree were all of he animals are because it had to be drilled with lots of holes to put all of the branches in place and then coloured and then put snow on so the preparation for this set was enormous. Even the animals were not animated and they had to be replaced with different drawings to make them move so the preparation shown just makes the video look like art.
When we see the drawings being cut out we can actually see just how many pictures were needed to do even one movement that the animals did so the amount used for each animal must of been incredible. I like seeing this because it makes you appreciate the advert more for what it is and why it is.
Overall this advert is magnificent and I think that the overall aesthetics of the video look incredible. The way the video explains the behind the scenes just makes you appreciate the advert more and I think itshows the song in a very good light.
