First World Problems read by Third World
Ideology
People in this world think that the smallest of problems are the biggest challenges. This is not the case for people living in poverty because I'm sure that people living in the third world would love to encounter problems such as having too big of a house rather than worrying about survival and drinking toxic water. It gives off the message that people living in the first world need to take a step back rather than acting so self-centred over the tiniest of things.
A final message it that some people are worse off therefore we should be more appreciative towards how lucky we actually are.
Characters/Visual style
Good use of juxtaposition because it shows the people in the third world countries and the problems that people in the first world face.
The setting of the third world people is significant. It is contrasting to the things the people say. For example, when the young girl talks about hating it when she leaves the clothes in the washer for a long period of time. This is contrasting because behind her is a dirty pool of water. If we didn't see this we would picture a washing machine.
The subtitles also add effectiveness because even though it is clear what the people are saying, it is written on the screen. This is good because it is there for longer.
The music begins to get heavier when the ad comes to an end. The uplifting music could represent the mood because it s showing that things can get better.
Lines Of Appeal
This ad gives the audience a feeling of guilt. Guilt because it makes us realise how much we complain about nothing and that worse things happen at sea. This uses fear because it makes the audience fear that if they don't donate, something bad will happen to the people in third world countries.
It encourages us to personally identify with the problems because we have all complained about at least one of them.
What works
Although it raises awareness, it doesn't mean that we are going to stop complaining about wireless internet loosing connection or phone chargers not being long enough. All of the problems mentioned were very relatable for us yet they didn't appeal to the people in the third world countries however this adds significance because it makes us realise that we are very fortunate.
