Audience Classification

The text i have chosen to analyse is one called Waterloo Road, Waterloo Road is a TV drama which has been on going since march 2006, it is based around a school and the life of the students and teachers that attend the school. For this text i believe that the audience is mainly teenagers as it is teenagers in which they mostly follow in the show, although it could also be aimed at teachers too as it is relate-able and shares a personal identity with both types of audience.

From my knowledge of the show and with what i have learnt I can say i honestly believe that the audiences who watch this would probably be them in the Class E category as the people watching this show are ones who still attend school or are teachers, this lands them in mainly the E category. I think that when writing this TV programme the writers had these types of audiences involved because of the story lines the show uses and the actors they use to star in the show. The show reaches out to those of each gender, age group and even home/school life as it covers all things a young person and teacher could be going through. It is set originally in Rochdale but from 2011 it transferred to Glasgow, so this show reaches out nation wide to students and teachers all over the UK and gives a similar representation of what its like being in and working in a public British school.

This TV series (to me) challenges the audiences needs for love and belonging as it is a programme that i think falls into the mainstream category, the reason for this is because it is a well known TV show and has big finales and openings so it always gives people things to talk about.

This series follows story lines of drug abuse, theft and sexual situations between teenagers, this whole show is one that draws in the types of people who follow the rebel, drop outs and drifters. Also it certainly falls upon the needs such as, the need for sex, as in the show there are numerous occasions in which affairs and one night stands have happened and also the need for love and belonging as there has been a lot of episodes in which characters such as Darren Hughes (broken home) has done criminal things to be accepted by "friends."
